What is a torque converter and when is it repaired
A torque converter is a fluid coupling between the transmission and the engine. It transfers drive through fluid, without a rigid connection, and that is why a car with an automatic transmission can stand in gear without turning off the engine.
Because it is a closed part, inaccessible to a standard workshop, car manufacturers do not offer repair of this part, only replacement with a new one. A new component is usually the most expensive item of the entire repair, which is why a rebuild pays off so often.
Fortunately, we can repair the torque converter for a fraction of this price. The repair requires a lot of specialized equipment: for cutting, measuring, assembling, gluing the friction ring, welding and quality control. Torque converter, the heart of the automatic transmission
The torque converter transfers drive from the engine to the transmission through fluid, without a rigid connection. Worn lock-ups, bearings and seals cause jerking, slip and fluid overheating. Untreated, they destroy the whole transmission, which is why we also perform a torque converter rebuild with every full repair.

Emptying and cutting
The torque converter is emptied of fluid with a special machine, then we cut the body on a lathe with a cutting frame.

Washing and assessment
We wash parts cold and hot. Assembly follows the damage assessment.

Plates or gluing
Depending on the turbine type, we use ready-made clutch plates or glue them to the piston with a special press powder. Temperature, pressing force and time influence this process.

Body welding
The torque converter sits directly on the crankshaft and spins up to 6 500 rpm, so welding must be done with the smallest possible deviation.
Why the deadline depends on the part number
There are many different types of torque converters. For example there are about 50 different torque converters just in one model of the Mercedes 722.6 five-speed transmission. A similar order of magnitude, about twenty different modifications, applies to every type of transmission.
That is why when asking about the date, the first thing we check is the part number. If we have a torque converter with the same number in stock, the process will not take longer than unscrewing the sleeve requiring repair and making sure it is suitable for a rebuild: the waiting time is then a few hours. If there is no exactly the same type of torque converter, the waiting time can be up to a few working days.

We do rebuilds at Wrocławska 6G in Długołęka. You can come with the whole car or bring the removed torque converter itself, if someone else does the removal.

You drive to the workshop via national road 98 through Psie Pole, without driving through the center of Wrocław. With smooth traffic, the drive takes: from Zakrzów about 9 minutes, from Psie Pole about 11 minutes, from Sołtysowice and Kowale about 16 minutes, from Śródmieście about 18 minutes, from the Market Square area about 23 minutes, and from Krzyki about 30 minutes. You need to add extra time during rush hours.

We receive the torque converter by courier from all over Poland
The torque converter is a closed part and a standard workshop will not open it, so there are few workshops rebuilding torque converters in the country. If you got here after hearing "only replacement with a new one" somewhere else, the distance does not have to stop you.
You do not bring the car. You ship the torque converter itself, and after the rebuild we send it back to the given address. It is removed when taking off the transmission, so your mechanic will do it on site and you do not need a tow truck across half of Poland.
